DJ Lainey ……Lainey’s Boutique

Growing up in a very social community in London, music was everywhere. Digging through my parents’ vinyl collection aged 9/10, a song that has stuck with me is Indeep’s ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’. My primary school had wet play discos, and we would dance to Salt n Pepa ‘Push It’. At 13, I received some vouchers for Boots and bought my first 7″ vinyl De La Soul ‘Me, Myself and I’ along with 2 I won’t mention haha! And so my eclectic taste was born. In 1995, I was lucky enough to attend Glastonbury’s 25th anniversary festival and saw the likes of Tricky, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Portishead, and many many more from across other genres. I was hooked on live festivals, concerts and DJ events over the next couple of decades.

In 2018, I brought a café bar, which became known as a cosy live music venue for bands and DJs. This lead to introductions to people on the local music scene, which gave me the opportunity to have a show on Conquest Hospital Radio. Then lockdown came, and the bar was no more. I joined VDubRadio in 2020, and, when restrictions lifted, I attended Bristol Volksfest and Busfest and DJ’d on the largest scale I’d ever done. It was amazing to see so many people dancing! I moved to Soul Music Radio in 2023 and played my first show on their launch day. I enjoyed playing out on Thames’ boat and being a part of the soul scene.

I later joined Street Sounds Radio to gain more exposure to hip hop scene fans. During my time there, my Mixcloud shows would regularly drop into the top 20, and gained a good following.

More recently, I’ve been playing out with other DJs in Hastings, St Leonards, and Rye, which I thoroughly enjoy.
I’m looking forward to bringing Lainey’s Boutique to Chocolate Radio and bringing you a ‘little bit of me’.
