Meet Diane Hinds
Diane is excited to join Chocolate Radio as a presenter and looks forward to sharing her record collection and stories on air.
The youngest of five siblings music has been her life line. From tuning in to Radio Luxembourg on her transistor radio back in the 70’s to discovering radio is her favourite medium.
Affectionately referred to as a ‘PK’ – preacher’s kid her father is long since retired. His last parish was the Anglican church at St Luke’s Great Ilford. It was he who married her off in the early 1990s.
Diane was co-host on Alex Pascall’s Black Londoners at BBC GLR, now BBC Radio London whilst learning her trade at Essex Radio in Southend and joining pirate radio stations Horizon and then Solar Radio. She also worked for BBC Radio 1 as a Broadcast Assistant before finding her niche as a regional radio plugger at Arista Records.
Her career highlights include picking up an award for Whitney Houston, launching Lesley Garrett CBE with whom she enjoyed 6 UK Classical number 1 albums, and the soprano earning the sobriquet the UK’s ‘biggest selling soprano’. She negotiated Lesley’s debut TV special Viva La Diva broadcast on BBC 2 and her first international concert performance at the Sydney Opera House, Australia. Diane has worked with an array of talent across the music spectrum; authors and a film director, Amanda Raymond, who made her directorial debut on the Netflix film “You Are My Home” featuring Alyssa Milana and Angela Parker. Diane’s client Angus Munro’s track “Bait and Switch” also features in the film.
An overriding memory for Diane is collecting Dudley Moore from Heathrow airport and spending time with him as he reminisced about his time in London. Some things will remain secret!
Diane is mother to two young adults, and lives with Sickle Cell Disease.
